Nördlingen in the Geopark Ries
Nördlingen, in the „Romantischen Street “ situated, is surrounded from Germany of the only completely preserved town wall. A walk on the about 2.7 km long military arrangement with her gates and pileworks offers a wonderful view of romantic lanes. Who rises on in the vernacular affectionately „Daniel “ called bell tower the Late-Gothic Saint-Georgs-Church, has a miraculous panorama over Nördlingen and the Ries. The unique scenery originated before about 15 million years from the impact of a meteorite. Besides, a new rock, „Schwabenstein “ (Suevit) became formed. The Ries offers many geologic specific features, it is worth this in the Ries crater museum in which among other things real lunar rock is to be seen to discover. The historical walk leads visitor by the tanner's quarter and to the town museum which gives insights in trade and fair, guild and craft as well as jurisdiction of the medieval town. The town wall museum in the Löpsinger Gate tower shows the history and meaning of the Nördlinger military arrangement at six floors.
