Modern Kempten: the town is a lively business, cultural and social town of some 65,000. It has an extensive shopping centre with plenty of welcoming taverns and cafés and an extensive programme of events.
The highlight of the year is without doubt the Allgäu Festival which is held annually in August and comprises an exhibition of local businesses as well as an extensive programme of cultural, sport and folklore events.
The Kempten Jazz Festival held every spring has not only successfully established itself as a fixed element of the annual event calendar but has also made a name for itself that is renowned far beyond regional borders.
The attractive historic setting of the Archaeological Park Cambodunum is also the scene for an annual top class programme of cultural events: the “-Summer”.
The annual Christmas market held every December which, with over 70 stalls, is the largest Christmas market in the whole of the Allgäu.
Kempten is an attractive place to visit not only because of the numerous attractions within the town boundaries but also because of its wonderful location: mountains, lakes and woods all just beyond the town gates are ideal for nature lovers, sports’ fans, hikers or those who just want to enjoy a gentle stroll.
